Torchère

A torchère is a tall lamp that stands on the floor and provides light in a big room. It has a long pole that goes up to a bowl-shaped part at the top where the light bulb goes. The bowl part is usually made of glass and it looks a bit like a flower vase.

When you turn on the torchère, the light shines upwards and it can brighten up the whole room. It's like having a bit of sunshine inside your house when it's dark outside.

Some torchères have fancy decorations on them, like patterns or carvings, to make them look extra pretty. And sometimes the bowl part can spin around, which makes it even more fun to look at.

But it's important to be careful around torchères because they can get very hot and you can burn yourself if you touch them. Always ask a grown-up to help you turn it on and off, and never put anything on it that could catch on fire.
