Torres Strait Islanders

Hey there kiddo! Torres Strait Islanders are a group of people who live in the Torres Strait, which is between the tip of Australia and Papua New Guinea. They have their own unique culture, language, and traditions. They have lived on these islands for over 2,000 years!

The Torres Strait Islanders have a special connection to the land and sea. They use traditional methods for fishing and gathering food, like spears and nets. They also have traditional dances, masks, and music that are really special to them.

The Torres Strait Islanders have faced some tough times throughout history, including being taken away from their families and homes by the Australian government. This was called the "Stolen Generations" and it was a really sad time for the Torres Strait Islanders.

Today, the Torres Strait Islanders are working to preserve their culture and traditions while also adapting to modern life. They still have some challenges to face, but they are strong and resilient people who are proud of who they are and where they come from.
