ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Torsionless module

Okay kiddo, imagine you have a toy car with wheels that can spin. When you twist the toy car, the wheels will also twist and turn. In math, we call this twisting "torsion."

Now, let's talk about modules. A module is another math object that has some special properties. It's like a collection of toys that are all related in some way. Just like how all the cars in your toy collection have wheels that spin, all the objects in a module have certain rules they obey.

When we say a module is "torsionless," it means that there's no twisting happening in the module. All the objects in the module spin and move around, but they don't twist and turn like the wheels of the toy car.

So just like how your toy cars can move around without twisting, a torsionless module is a math object that can do its thing without any twisting happening.
