Tosher

Okay kiddo, let me tell you all about a tosher. So, back in olden times, people didn't have modern day toilets like we do now. They used to go poop in buckets or just outside. Gross, isn't it?

But there were people called "toshers" who were like poop detectives! They would sneak around in the middle of the night, with their lanterns and hooks, looking for poop to collect.

Why would anyone want to collect poop, you ask? Well, toshers would take the poop and sell it to companies who used it to make fertilizer for plants. So, they basically turned smelly poop into something useful!

But it wasn't just poop that toshers collected. They would also collect old rags and scraps of fabric. They would sell these to companies who would recycle them and turn them into paper.

So, to sum it up, a tosher was someone who collected poop and rags to sell to recycling companies. Gross, but kind of cool too, right?
