Town of Greece v. Galloway
Okay kiddo, let me try to explain this to you. You know how before having dinner or during a party, some people say a prayer or give a speech? Well, this is what happened in the town of Greece in New York. There were some people in the town who did this before the town meetings started.
Now, there were two people, Susan Galloway and Linda Stephens, who thought this was not fair. They thought that only Christian people were being allowed to do this, and that other religions or people who didn't believe in any religion were being left out. So they went to court to ask if this was okay.
The court had to decide if it was fair that only Christian people were allowed to pray or speak before the town meetings. The court said that as long as everyone had a chance to do this, no matter their religion or belief, it was okay. The court also said that the town did not have to invite people from all different religions to pray, but if someone from a different religion wanted to pray, they could ask to do so.
