ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Traditional mathematics

Hey there kiddo, traditional mathematics is like a big puzzle where we use numbers to solve problems. You know how we count with our fingers and say numbers like 1, 2, 3, and so on? Well, traditional mathematics is all about using those numbers to figure out how much of something we have or how to share things equally.

In traditional mathematics, we learn things like addition and subtraction where we put two numbers together or take one away from another. We also learn about multiplication which is like adding a number to itself multiple times, and we learn about division which is like sharing equally between a group of people or things.

We also learn about shapes like circles, triangles, and rectangles. We can use traditional mathematics to measure the size of those shapes and the distance between them. We can also use traditional mathematics to figure out how much area there is inside a shape.

Traditional mathematics has been used for a very long time and it helps us solve all sorts of problems in our everyday lives. So, next time you count your toys or share with your friends, you can say that you're using traditional mathematics!
