ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Transatlantic tunnel

Well kiddo, you know how we can travel long distances by car, plane or boat across the ocean? Well, there are some people who think it would be really cool to build a long tunnel deep under the ocean so we can travel between America and Europe super fast without needing a plane or a boat.

Now, building a tunnel is a huge project and it would require a lot of planning and hard work. First, engineers and scientists would need to figure out how to make the tunnel safe and strong, so that it wouldn't collapse under the weight of the water and the pressure deep under the sea.

They would also need to make sure that the tunnel has enough air to breathe and that people inside can see where they're going, so they would need to place lights and ventilation systems all along the tunnel.

To build the tunnel, the workers would need to dig a huge hole on both sides of the ocean, and then use big machines and drills to make a long tunnel that goes from one side to the other. They would need to use strong materials like concrete and steel to make sure the tunnel is sturdy and can handle the pressure of the water.

Once the tunnel is built, people would be able to ride in trains that run through it, kind of like subway trains, but much faster. They would be able to see the ocean and the fish swimming outside their windows as they travel from one side to the other.

Overall, building a transatlantic tunnel would be a huge achievement for engineering and technology, and would make traveling across the ocean faster, cheaper and more fun.
