Transimpedance amplifier

A transimpedance amplifier is a kind of amplifier which changes a electric signal into a current signal. Imagine you have a balloon filled with electricity. The transimpedance amplifier acts like a pump - it changes the electric signal (or "stuff" in the balloon) into a current signal (water slowly flowing out of the balloon). That current signal can be used to do lots of different things.
