Transurethral resection of the prostate

Transurethral resection of the prostate, or TURP for short, is like an operation where a doctor takes a little camera and a special tool and puts them up a man's peepee so that he can fix a problem with his wee-wee.

The problem that TURP fixes is when a man's prostate gets too big and squeezes his peepee so that it's hard to pee. The doctor can fix this by using the special tool to take out the part of the prostate that's squeezing the peepee too much.

The doctor doesn't have to make any cuts on the man's skin to do this- he just puts the camera and tool up through the peepee and does the fixing from the inside. After the operation, the man may have to wear a little tube called a catheter for a short time so that the wee-wee can come out more easily while it's healing.

Overall, TURP is a fancy way to help men pee better when their prostate is making it hard for them.
