ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Traumatic memory

Traumatic memory is when something scary or hurtful happens to us and it stays in our brain and makes us remember it even when we don't want to. It's like a really strong picture in our head that we can't forget, even though we wish we could. This can happen when something scary or dangerous happens to us, like getting hurt or being in an accident. Our brain takes a picture of that scary moment and keeps it with us for a long time. Sometimes when we see something that reminds us of that scary moment, we can feel scared or upset all over again. It's important to talk to someone we trust if we have a traumatic memory, so they can help us feel better and learn how to deal with those feelings when they come up.
