Trellis (architecture)

Imagine building a big fort out of sticks and ropes in your backyard like a little adventurer! You would weave the sticks together to create a sturdy structure that could hold you up and even protect you from the rain or sun.

In architecture, people sometimes use a similar idea with something called a trellis. It's like a big frame made out of wood or metal that is sometimes used to support plants like flowers, vines or vegetables.

The trellis is often made up of a crisscross of smaller pieces of wood or metal, just like what you did when you made your fort. This creates a strong framework that the plants can grow around and cling to as they go up and up towards the sun.

Just like how you built your fort to last through all kinds of weather, people build trellises to be sturdy and durable. They're used to create beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces where plants can grow and thrive while being supported by the trellis structure.
