Triple-alpha process

The triple-alpha process is a way for stars to make energy. The process happens in a very hot part of a star. In this hot part, two helium atoms can combine to make a bigger atom called beryllium-8. Right away, beryllium-8 splits apart into two helium atoms again. But sometimes, two of the helium atoms can come together and stick together. When that happens, they make a bigger atom called carbon-12. The carbon-12 helps the star make energy and keeps it shining and warm.
