ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tritonic scale

Alright kiddo, let me explain it to you in a way that's easy to understand. Just like how we use only 7 letters in the alphabet to make all the words we know, we use different combinations of sounds to make music. One of those combinations is called a scale.

A tritonic scale is a scale that only has three different notes, instead of the usual seven notes that are in most scales. Imagine if you only had three colors of paint to work with instead of all the colors of the rainbow, it might be a little more tricky to create different pictures.

In music, tritonic scales are not used as commonly as other scales, but they are still important. They are often used in certain types of music, like traditional Indian music or some kinds of folk music. They can create a different feeling or mood in the music that is unique compared to other scales.

So, just like how you can make different pictures with different combinations of paint colors, musicians can create different kinds of music using different combinations of notes in different scales. The tritonic scale is just one of those combinations!
