ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

True strength index

The true strength index (TSI) is a technical indicator that helps traders measure whether a stock or other security is in an up or down trend. The TSI uses both price and momentum to determine the trend. Price is just the cost of the security, while momentum measures how fast the price is changing. In other words, the momentum shows if the stock is going up or down fast. The TSI measures whether the momentum is increasing, decreasing or staying the same. If the momentum is increasing, it's a sign that the price of the security is going up, which is good for traders. On the other hand, if the momentum is decreasing, it's a sign the price of the security is going down, which is bad for traders. The TSI helps traders decide when to buy and sell their stocks by telling them if the price is going up or down.
