ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

U.S. Department of Transportation

The U.S. Department of Transportation is like the babysitter for all the cars, buses, trains, and planes in the country. They make sure that all the drivers and pilots are following the rules so that people can travel safely.

They also make sure that the roads, airports, and train stations are built and maintained so that people can use them without getting hurt.

They work with other groups, like state and local governments, to plan and fund projects that make transportation better for everyone.

Think of the U.S. Department of Transportation like the grown-up who takes care of transportation in the whole country and helps keep us all safe when we're on the go.
