U.S. Parcel Post stamps of 1912–13

When you get mail or a package, you need to put a stamp on it so it can be sent to the right place. A long time ago, in 1912-1913, the United States government made some special stamps for packages that were being sent in the mail. These stamps were called "parcel post stamps."

These special stamps were made to show how much the package weighed and how far it needed to go. The more it weighed and the farther it needed to go, the more expensive the stamp had to be. That's why the stamps looked different depending on how much the package weighed and how far it was going.

The stamps had pictures of different animals on them like eagles, bison, and deer. Each animal had a different value, which is another way of saying how much money it was worth. For example, a stamp with an eagle on it might be worth 10 cents, while a stamp with a bison might be worth 15 cents.

The parcel post stamps were very important because they helped people send packages in the mail easily and efficiently. This was especially helpful for people who lived far away from each other and couldn't always meet in person. Today, we still use stamps to send things in the mail, but they look a little different and work a little differently too!
