Ugunskrusts

Ugunskrusts is a Latvian word that means "fire crust" in English. Do you know how sometimes when you cook something in the oven or on the stove, it gets a little bit crispy or burnt on the outside? That's kind of like what ugunskrusts is.

In Latvia, people make traditional breads and cakes that have a crispy, caramelized crust on the outside. They achieve this by baking the bread or cake at a really high temperature for a short amount of time. This makes the outside of the bread or cake get hot and crispy, while the inside stays soft and fluffy.

It's kind of like when you play outside on a really hot day and your skin gets all sweaty and sticky. That's because the sun is making the outside of your body hot and crispy, but the inside is still soft and squishy.

Ugunskrusts is really yummy and adds a nice texture and flavor to bread and cakes. Just be careful not to burn it too much, or it might not taste as good!
