Ultrasonic hearing

Ultrasonic hearing means that some animals can hear things that are too high pitched for humans to hear. Imagine you are listening to a song and you can only hear the part where the singer is singing, but you can't hear any of the instruments playing quietly in the background. Animals with ultrasonic hearing can hear those instruments, even though they are too quiet for you to hear.

Some animals, like bats and some rodents, use their ultrasonic hearing to help them find food and navigate in the dark. They make high pitched noises that bounce off objects and then they listen for the echoes to come back. That helps them figure out how far away things are, and where they are located.

Scientists have also found that some animals, like elephants and whales, use ultrasonic sounds that are too high for us to hear to communicate with each other. They use these special sounds to talk to other animals that are far away, and they can hear each other even over long distances, like across the ocean.

Overall, ultrasonic hearing is like having a secret superpower that only some animals have. They can hear all sorts of things that humans can't, which helps them survive and communicate with each other in ways that are beyond our understanding.
