Umm walad

Umm Walad is an Arabic term which literally means "mother of a son". It is used to describe a woman who has a son but is not married. In many Muslim communities, this term is used to refer to an unmarried woman who has a child, as a way of respecting her role in the family. The term can also be used to refer to mothers who are divorced or widowed, as it acknowledges the effort that they put into parenting their son.
