ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Unacknowledged rape

So, you know that it's not okay for someone to touch you in ways that make you uncomfortable, right? Well, sometimes someone might touch you in a way that you don't like, but you might not understand that it's really not okay. And sometimes you might be scared or ashamed to tell someone about it.

Now imagine that instead of just touching you in a way you don't like, someone does something much worse, like having sex with you without your permission. This is called rape, and it's very, very wrong. But sometimes when someone is raped, they don't tell anyone about it. This is called an unacknowledged rape.

There are many reasons why someone might not tell anyone about being raped. They might be too scared or ashamed to talk about it. They might not think anyone will believe them. They might worry that it's their fault somehow. But just because someone doesn't talk about being raped doesn't mean it didn't happen.

It's important to remember that no one should ever touch you in a way that makes you uncomfortable, and it's never your fault if someone does. If you ever have any questions or worries about this, it's okay to talk to someone you trust, like a parent, teacher, or doctor. They can help you understand what's happening and make sure you're safe.
