Underground pneumatic boring

Hey kiddo, do you know what underground pneumatic boring is? It's like making a tunnel underground without having to dig a big hole or make a mess on the surface.

Let's imagine we need to lay some pipes or cables underground but there are things like buildings, roads, or trees on top. We don't want to damage them or make a big hole that will disrupt everyone's daily life, so we use underground pneumatic boring.

First, we put a big machine called a pneumatic boring system at one end of where we want the tunnel to be. This machine has a long drill bit that can move underground with air pressure. Think of it like a straw that you blow into to shoot a spitball, but on a much bigger scale!

Then, we put another machine at the other end to catch the drill bit when it pops out. This machine is called a drilling fluid recovery system. The drill bit is connected to a long tube that runs back to the starting machine.

Now we're ready to start boring! The first machine turns on the air pressure, which powers the drill bit to move underground. It can easily go through soil, rocks, and other obstacles without causing much disturbance on the surface.

As the bit moves forward, it pushes the dirt and rocks aside, which is called spoils. The spoils go into the long tube that runs back to the starting machine. This tube is like a straw that you suck on to drink a milkshake, but in reverse. It sucks the spoils out of the tunnel and into a big container on the machine.

When the drill bit reaches the other end, the second machine catches it and pulls it out of the ground. Now we have a tunnel underground! We can use this tunnel to lay pipes, cables, or anything else we need.

The best part about underground pneumatic boring is that it's a relatively quick process and doesn't cause much disruption on the surface. It's like making a secret tunnel underground without anyone knowing!
