ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Underwater rugby

Underwater rugby is like playing a game of tag, but in a swimming pool and underwater! Instead of running around and touching each other, the players wear snorkels, fins, and masks to swim around in the water.

Imagine that the swimming pool is a big tank of water, and there are two teams of people who go underwater to try and score a goal. Each team has six players, and they pass around a ball made of heavy rubber which sinks to the bottom of the pool.

The goal of the game is to score a goal by putting the ball in the other team's basket. The baskets are at the bottom of the pool at either end, and players have to swim down to put the ball in or guard their own basket.

Of course, it's challenging to play with so much water around you and you can't breathe without a snorkel, so players have to be very fit and comfortable in the water to play. They have to hold their breath for short periods while they swim underwater and make quick passes with the ball.

To keep things fair and safe, there are certain rules players have to follow. They can't grab onto each other or their equipment with their hands or fins, and they can't hold on to the sides of the pool or the bottom of the pool for too long.

Underwater rugby is a fun and exciting sport that requires teamwork, quick thinking, and a lot of swimming skills. It's not something for everyone, but if you enjoy swimming and being in the water, you might want to give it a try!
