ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Unique hues

Hey kiddo, let's learn about unique hues!

When you look at the world around you, you see a lot of different colors like red, blue, green, and yellow. But did you know that there are some colors that are so special, they can't be made by mixing any other colors together? These special colors are called unique hues.

Let me explain it to you like this: Imagine you have a coloring book and you want to color a picture of a lemon. You might pick up a yellow crayon and start coloring, right? Well, yellow is not a unique hue because you can make it by mixing red and green together. But the color that you get when you look at a real lemon is a unique hue because you can't make it by mixing any other colors together.

There are four different unique hues: red, yellow, green, and blue. These are the colors that our eyes can see the best and they are the most important colors in the world around us. Scientists have studied unique hues for a long time and they even found out that our brains process these colors differently than other colors.

So next time you see something that is a really special color, just remember that it might be a unique hue!
