United Ireland

United Ireland is an idea that Ireland can become one country again. Ireland used to be one country but it was divided in 1920. Northern Ireland became part of the United Kingdom while Southern Ireland became the Republic of Ireland. People that want Ireland to be one country again say that it should be called “United Ireland". This means that Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland would come together to be one big country. It is an idea that has been around for a long time and a lot of people want it to happen but there are some others who want Ireland to stay divided.
