United Nations Convention against Torture

The United Nations Convention Against Torture is like a really important rule book. It's a book that all the countries in the world have agreed to follow so that nobody gets hurt or treated badly.

The book talks about how countries shouldn't use torture on people. "Torture" means hurting people on purpose to make them feel pain or to get information out of them. Just like mommy and daddy don't hurt you on purpose when they give you a time out or put you to bed, no one should ever hurt someone else on purpose.

The big important people who made this rule book called "the Convention" want everyone in the world to feel safe, even if they are from a different country. That's why the book says that no matter where you come from or what you look like, you shouldn't be hurt or made to feel bad just because someone wants to.

So, if someone is caught breaking this rule book and hurting someone else, that person could be in big trouble. Countries who don't follow this rule book could be kicked out of big meetings with other important people in charge of the world (like time-outs for countries) or even fined a lot of money.

This rule book is really important because it helps protect people like you and me from being hurt. And everyone in the world is supposed to follow it, just like the way we follow rules in our own homes and schools!
