The United States Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) is a government agency that collects data on the size and shape of the Earth. They create maps and charts of the coastlines of the U.S. and of the world's oceans. They also measure heights, depths, and distances at sea to help sailors make sure they can get to where they need to go safely. In addition, they take pictures using satellites to track changes in the land, sea and atmosphere. To do this, they use special tools and equipment like radar, lasers, and GPS. Finally, they share all this information with other agencies and the public.
