Uniting American Families Act

The Uniting American Families Act is a law that people are trying to make so that families can stay together, even if some of the members are from different countries.

Imagine you have a friend who lives in a different country. If you want to visit them or they want to visit you, you need special permission called a visa. But some people are not allowed to get visas because they are not married or they do not have very close family members living in the United States.

The Uniting American Families Act would change this so that if you are in a same-sex relationship or if you have a close friend or someone you consider family who lives in another country, you would be allowed to sponsor them and help them get a visa to come live with you in the United States. This way, families would not have to be separated because they are from different places, and they can all be together like they want to be.
