ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Urban archaeology

Urban archaeology is when people study things that were left behind in cities from a long time ago. Just like you can dig up dinosaur bones in the ground, you can dig up old things from cities that people used to live in a long time ago! Sometimes these cities are still there, but they may look different from how they looked a long time ago.

Archaeologists use special tools to dig into the ground and find things like old buildings, pottery, tools, and even garbage! They carefully clean and study everything they find to learn more about the people who used to live in the city.

Urban archaeology is important because it helps us understand how people used to live and how cities have changed over time. It's like going back in time and learning what life was like a long time ago.
