Urine osmolality

So, you know how you go peepee and sometimes it looks really clear and sometimes it looks more yellow? Well, that has to do with something called urine osmolality.

Urine osmolality is basically how much stuff is in your peepee. When you drink a lot of water, there isn't much stuff in your peepee so it's really clear. But when you don't drink a lot of water, your body keeps the water and puts more stuff in your peepee to get rid of it. So then your peepee looks more yellow.

Doctors look at urine osmolality to see if your body is doing a good job of balancing how much water and stuff is in your peepee. If it's too high, that could mean you're dehydrated and not drinking enough water. But if it's too low, that could mean there's something wrong with your kidneys and they're not getting rid of enough stuff.

So, it's important to drink plenty of water and make sure our peepee looks just right, not too clear and not too yellow. And doctors can check our urine osmolality to make sure everything is working the way it should be.
