ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Utility maximization problem

The utility maximization problem is about finding the best way for someone to use their money, time, or other resources so that they get the most satisfaction. It means deciding how much of one thing you would use to get the most out of it. For example, if you are deciding between buying an ice cream and going to a movie, you might want to think about how much enjoyment you'll get from each and try to use your money to get the most out of it.
