Vacuum brake

Okay kiddo, so you know how when you ride your bike, you can use the brakes to make it stop? Well, trains have brakes too, but they work differently. One type of brake they use is called a vacuum brake.

You see, trains are really big and heavy, so they need a lot of force to make them stop. That's where the vacuum brake comes in. Inside the train, there are pipes that are connected to each carriage. These pipes suck air out of the pipes using a big pump, like a straw.

When the train driver wants to apply the brakes, they use a lever or pedal that opens a valve in the pipe. This lets air back into the pipes, which releases the brakes on each carriage. The more air that gets let back in, the more the brakes are released and the slower the train goes.

The vacuum brake is a very important safety feature on trains because it helps them stop quickly and smoothly. Plus, it doesn't need any electricity to work, which is handy in case of power failures. So, when you see a big train slowing down, you'll now know that it's using its vacuum brake to do so!
