Variance function

Hi there! So, a variance function is a tool that helps us figure out how spread out a bunch of numbers are from their average or "middle".

Let's say we have a bunch of marbles that are different colors. We want to know how different they all are from the average color of all the marbles. The variance function helps us do this!

To use the variance function, we first need to know the average or "middle" color of all our marbles. Once we've got that, we look at each individual marble and see how far away it is from the average color. We write down how far away each marble is, and then we use the variance function to figure out how spread out all the distances are from each other.

If the variance is small, that means most of the marbles are really close in color to the average color. If the variance is big, that means the marbles are all over the place in terms of color and not very similar to each other.

So basically, the variance function helps us see how different or similar a whole bunch of things are to each other!
