Variations of the ichthys symbol
Okay kiddo, so you know what a fish looks like right? Well, a long long time ago when people were just figuring out how to follow a guy named Jesus and be part of his group they needed to be able to recognize each other secretly because it wasn't always safe to be part of that group. So they made up a special way to draw a fish symbol called the "ichthys" (pronounced ik-thus).
But here's the really cool part, there are lots of different ways to draw the ichthys symbol! Some have lines that are straight, some are curved, some are just simple empty outlines, and some have lots of fancy designs inside them. Each one is special in its own way and they all mean the same thing - that the person wearing or drawing the symbol is part of the Jesus group and they wanted to find other people in the group too!
