Vehicle classification by propulsion system

Vehicles are often grouped by the type of propulsion system they use. A propulsion system is the way a vehicle moves. Different propulsion systems provide a vehicle with power and allow the vehicle to move. Some of the most common types of propulsion systems for vehicles are electric, gasoline, diesel, and hybrid.

Electric vehicles get power from electricity, which is passed through a motor to drive the vehicle. They don't need gasoline or diesel to move.

Gasoline-powered vehicles use gasoline to power the engine and make the vehicle move.

Diesel-powered vehicles use diesel fuel to run the engine and power the vehicle.

Hybrid vehicles use both electricity and gasoline or diesel fuel to move. They can switch between the two propulsion systems to get the best performance.
