Velificatio is a funny word that describes something that used to happen a long time ago. It happened in ancient Rome, which was a city a long time ago where lots of people used to live.
When the big, important men would have special celebrations, they would have boats that would be pulled along by big groups of people. These boats were called "vela" and they were really, really big!
The people who would pull the boats were all dressed up in fancy clothes, and they would use long, strong ropes to pull the boats through the water. It must have been really hard work!
People would come from all over the city to see the velificatio because it was so impressive. And because the boats were so big, they could see them from really far away!
Nowadays, we don't have velificatio anymore because there are better, faster ways to celebrate. But it's still really fun to learn about things that happened a long time ago!
