ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Venetian nationalism

Okay, imagine you're part of a big family, like a lot of cousins and uncles and aunts. And let's say you live in a really cool city with lots of canals, like Venice. Now, sometimes when you live in a cool place with your family, you start to feel really proud of where you're from. You might wear a t-shirt with your city's name on it or put up a flag outside your house.

That's kind of like what Venetian nationalism is. It's when people who live in Venice start to feel really proud of their city and want it to have more power and respect. They feel like Venice is special and different from other cities in Italy, and they want other people to see that too.

So sometimes, people who are really into Venetian nationalism might want things like their own flag or their own government separate from Italy. They might also want to focus more on Venetian culture and history in schools and museums.

But not everyone in Venice feels this way! Some people think it's important to be part of Italy and feel more connected to the whole country. So it's kind of like a family feud, where some people want to be even more proud of their cool city and others are happy being part of the bigger family of Italy.
