ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Vermiculation

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen dirt? Of course you have! Well, sometimes worms like to live in the dirt because they can hide from birds and other predators. When they're living in the dirt, they wiggle around and make little tunnels or paths.

Now, let's pretend we take a close look at those little paths the worms made. Do you see those little lines that look like squiggles? Those are called vermiculations!

Basically, vermiculations are just the little markings left behind by worms as they move through the soil. They can be different sizes and shapes, but they usually look like tiny lines or wavy patterns. So if you ever see those little lines in the dirt, just remember that they were made by busy worms!
