Verstehen is a German word that means understanding. It is a way of looking at things from different perspectives, exploring what has been said, and being curious about ideas. When you verstehen something, it means you take the time to think about it and try to get to the root of it. Verstehen means really taking the time to understand the deeper meaning behind something, and getting to its essence.
