ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Violence in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict 2003

Okay, imagine you and your friend are playing with a toy, but you both want to play with it at the same time. You start arguing and pushing each other to try and get the toy. This is kind of like what's happening with Israel and Palestine. They both want to live in the same area and have control over it, but they can't agree on who gets what. This has been going on for a really long time, even before you were born.

In 2003, there was a lot of violence between Israel and Palestine. This means people were hurting each other and breaking things. It's like when you get really angry and throw your toys around, but on a much bigger scale.

Some Israelis and Palestinians thought that violence was the only way to get what they wanted. They would shoot guns, throw bombs, and sometimes even attack each other with rocks. This caused a lot of damage and people got hurt or killed.

Other people, like leaders from other countries, wanted the Israelis and Palestinians to talk to each other and try to find a peaceful solution. They thought that if everyone talked and listened to each other, they could find a way to share the toy peacefully.

The violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is really complicated and has many different factors, but it all comes down to people not being able to agree on how to share the toy. It's important to remember that hurting others is never the answer and that we should always try to find peaceful solutions.
