A violin concerto is a piece of music written for the violin (a type of stringed instrument) and an orchestra. This music may be performed in a concert hall by an orchestra or in a smaller setting, like with a piano and one or two players. In a violin concerto, the violin is the solo instrument and plays the main melody while the orchestra usually plays the accompaniment. At the beginning of a violin concerto, the solo violin may play a short piece of music on its own, then the orchestra will come in and provide the accompaniment. During the piece, the violin might have a lot of different melodies to play and the orchestra will also provide a lot of different musical patterns. At the end of the piece, the solo violin and the orchestra come together for a grand finish!
