Okay, so a visual prosthetic is kind of like a tool that helps people who have trouble seeing. You know how sometimes when you wear glasses, things look clearer? Well, a visual prosthetic is kind of like that but even better!
There are some people who have very poor vision or maybe they can't see at all. But with a visual prosthetic, they can still see some things! Basically, the way it works is this: there's a tiny camera that goes on the outside of the person's eye, and it takes pictures of what's in front of them. Then, those pictures get sent to a little computer that's also part of the visual prosthetic.
The computer takes those pictures and turns them into signals that the person's brain can understand. Then, those signals get sent to electrodes (which are kind of like wires) that have been placed inside the person's eye. When those electrodes get the signals, they send little electric shocks to the person's eye, and those shocks create tiny dots of light that the person can see!
So, with a visual prosthetic, even though someone might not be able to see like you and I can, they can still see some things by using technology to help their eyes interpret the world around them. It's really amazing what science and technology can do to help people!
