ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Volume of distribution

Okay kiddo, have you ever played with a water bottle that has a straw in it? When you suck on the straw, the water comes up and fills your mouth, right?

Well, imagine that the water bottle is like your body and the water inside is like medicine that you take. Just like the water bottle, your body has different spaces where the medicine can go.

The amount of medicine that can go in these spaces is called the volume of distribution. So, when you take medicine, it goes into different parts of your body like your blood, tissues, and organs.

However, every person's body is different so the volume of distribution can be different too. This means that some people might need more medicine to fill up their body and reach the right concentration in their blood or tissues.

So, doctors and scientists use the volume of distribution to figure out how much medicine you need to take and how it will affect your body. Pretty cool, huh?
