ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Volunteer plant

Hello there! Have you ever seen a plant grow by itself without anyone planting it? That's called a volunteer plant.

When we plant seeds in our gardens or farms, we expect them to grow into plants. But sometimes, some seeds from the previous year's plants remain in the soil. And when the conditions are right, like enough sunlight, water, and nutrients, the seed can start growing by itself without anyone having to plant it there.

Just like when you plant a seed in the garden, the volunteer plant needs soil, sunlight, water, and nutrients to grow big and strong. And just like any other plant, it can either be a vegetable, flower, or even a weed!

So, that's what a volunteer plant is, it's like a little surprise gift from nature that grows by itself without anyone having to do anything. Pretty cool, huh?
