Voskhod program

Voskhod was a program run by the Soviet Union that wanted to be the first country to send a human being into space. The program launched a few unmanned rockets first to make sure they could do it safely. In 1964, they sent the first cosmonauts, or astronauts, into space. They kept going, and set records like having the first multi-person crew, or group of people, in 1965. They ended the program in 1966 when they launched the Soyuz rocket. The Soyuz was more advanced and could take people to space and back safely, so they opened a new program to use Soyuz instead of Voskhod.
