Walk to Canossa

Walk to Canossa was an event in the year 1077. It was when the Holy Roman Emperor, Henry IV, had to make a pilgrimage to the city of Canossa in northern Italy to try to apologize to the Pope and ask for forgiveness. The Pope had excommunicated Henry and refused to accept his apologies. So Henry had to walk (not in a car or on a horse) to Canossa to beg the Pope to forgive him. This eventually worked and Henry was allowed back into the Catholic Church.
