Wallace Line

Okay, kiddo, imagine that you have two beautiful gardens in your backyard, one on the left side and the other on the right side. Now, imagine that you want to know the difference between the plants and animals living in each of these gardens. This is what the Wallace Line is about!

The Wallace Line is like an invisible line that separates two big gardens, but these gardens are not just in your backyard. They are actually two big islands in Southeast Asia called the Sunda and Sahul.

Many, many years ago, these two islands were connected, and the plants and animals could travel freely between them. But then, something happened that broke the connection, and the plants and animals on each of the islands evolved or changed in different ways.

The Wallace Line is the point where scientists noticed that the plants and animals on one side of the line were very different than those on the other side. For example, the animals on the Sahul side, like kangaroos and wallabies, are very different from those on the Sunda side, like tigers and elephants.

So, the Wallace Line is like a big imaginary line that separates two places with different types of plants and animals that have evolved differently because they were not able to mix and mingle. It's a really fascinating thing to think about and study!
