ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

War Department (United Kingdom)

Okay, so imagine the United Kingdom is like a big family. And just like in a family, there are people who make decisions and take care of different things.

The War Department was like the person in charge of making sure the UK was safe and protected when there was a war happening. It had a lot of important jobs, like making sure soldiers had the things they needed to fight, like weapons and food. It also made plans for how to win the war and kept an eye on what the enemy was doing.

The War Department was part of the UK government, which is kind of like the parents of the family, and it had people who were really good at making war plans and strategies. They worked together to make sure the country was safe and the soldiers were doing their jobs in the best way possible.

But now, the War Department isn't called that anymore. It's been combined with other departments to make things more efficient. Kind of like when moms and dads combine their efforts to get things done faster in a family. But even though it's called something different, the important work of keeping the UK safe still goes on!
