ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

War hammer

Okay kiddo, let me explain what a war hammer is. Imagine you have a toy hammer that you like to pretend to build things with. A war hammer is like that, but it's used to hurt people in a fight.

It's special because it has a heavy metal head on one end and a long handle on the other. The metal head has a pointy or flat part, and sometimes even spikes on it! This part is used to hit and crush things like armor and bones.

When people in the olden days went to battle wearing armor, using a regular sword or arrow didn't always work because the armor was too strong. So they started using war hammers! These hammers were super effective at breaking the armor and injuring the person wearing it.

Of course, we don't play with real war hammers now because they can be very dangerous. But people still like to use replicas as props for costumes or in historical reenactments to learn about what it was like to fight in the past.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
