Ok kiddo, so you know how water is a molecule made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom? Well, sometimes two water molecules can stick together and that's called a water dimer!
Like when you hold hands with your friend, the water molecules hold onto each other through something called a hydrogen bond. It's like a tiny magnet between the hydrogen in one molecule and the oxygen in the other molecule.
Now, the water dimer doesn't happen all the time because the molecules need to be in just the right position to stick together. But when they do, they can do some really cool things like helping to explain how water moves through plants or how ice floats in water.
Isn't science fun, even for five-year-olds?!
