Wave function collapse

Wave function collapse is what happens when a particle - like an atom - changes its position or energy. Think of a wave in the ocean that starts out big and spread out - that is what a wave function looks like. When the wave function collapses, it means that the wave is no longer spread out, it is much smaller and focused.
